Soapstone Countertops

A natural stone frequently used for countertops in “farmhouse” or “industrial chic” designs, soapstone is a nonporous natural stone. It is impervious to chemicals and was frequently used in laboratories and scientific classrooms. While extremely dense, it is a softer stone that tends to scratch and dent. Many consumers look for this characteristic when they want a material that will age with the home and take on the character of the use during its lifespan.

Commonly described as being like an “old leather jacket”, soapstone becomes more beautiful as it is “worn in”. Due to its lack of pores, maintenance is not required. However, many consumers choose to enhance the natural veining and colorization of the stone by applying a light layer of mineral oil to the surface.

At Granite of the Smokies, we believe in being a one-stop shop where our clients in the Talbott, Tennessee area can find a wide variety of countertop materials and get full service from design through installation. That is why we carry soapstone, along with more traditional materials, such as granite, quartz, quartzite, and marble. Whether you want to go with soapstone throughout a room or for just one area, such as a kitchen island, we can help you with selecting the perfect materials for your renovation project.
